IGES contributed to international policymaking processes for sustainable development such as the COP16 Cancun Agreements in 2010, the Nagoya Protocol adopted at the 10th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP10) and the preparatory process for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). In response to the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011 and the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant, IGES began an institution-wide project aiming at offering recommendations for post-quake recovery.
