To bring urgent issues from the Asia-Pacific to international policy processes, IGES provided opportunities for discussion at forums, also supporting the creation of networks and information sharing among researchers and practitioners. In 2005, the Kyoto Protocol entered into force and the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development started, and IGES launched concrete programmes to meet the needs of the region. IGES also worked to improve research management for effective strategic research ahead of the Fourth Phase.
Launch of the capacity building programme for promotion of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Joint Implementation (JI) in the Asia-Pacific region
Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) shifted its Secretariat to IGES
Launch of EnviroScope, an on-line environmental information database on world environment issues
APFED Final Report presented at an MCED 2005 side event, including more than 100 policy recommendations to create sustainable society
