Under the new Chair, Prof. Hironori Hamanaka, projects were coordinated by the Programme Management Office (PMO) and cross-cutting research began on a full-scale based on the needs of the region. IGES contributed to the preparatory process for the G8 Toyako Summit held in 2008, and progress was made in linking with international forums and networks. Aiming to create a change in society, information dissemination activities in Japan were promoted through seminars and other events.
