本研究は、わが国における上場企業278社について、環境保全活動の強化が財務業績に対してもプラスの影響を与えるものとなるという仮説を検証しようとするものであるが、1990年代末から導入・強化されてきた環境政策とそれに対する企業の対応が果たした役割についても考察する。 1999年から2003年までのデータを用いた統計的因果性の分析により、環境経営度のような環境活動情報に、企業の環境政策対応に関する情報を加えた場合のほうが、環境活動の財務パフォーマンスに及ぼすプラスの影響がよりよく検証されることが明らかにされた。さらに産業別の分析から、(1) 機械産業では環境パフォーマンスから財務パフォーマンスへの関係はどちらかといえばマイナスであること、(2) エネルギー集約産業ではプラスの関係が強いものの...
