The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is the world’s largest environmental network to advance nature conservation and sustainable development, with members including governments, civil society, Indigenous Peoples’ organizations, scientists, and businesses. Every four years, IUCN convenes its World Conservation Congress (WCC), a global forum that combines a democratic decision-making assembly with a large public exhibition and knowledge-sharing space. At the WCC, IUCN Members debate and adopt motions that can contribute to shaping global conservation policy. The latest WCC took place in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (9-15 October 2025) with around 10,000 participants and featured, among other things, high-level dialogues, exhibitions, “learning zones”, Members’ Assembly, and summits for business, philanthropy, youth, and Indigenous Peoples. The Congress was organized around five cross-cutting themes.
