IGES Supports SMEs SDGs Report Publication at the National-level,
and its Launch at the High-level Political Forum 2019
IGES gave its support to the “Taiyo Jyuken Sustainable Development Goals Report
2019”, which was presented at a side-event of the High-level Political Forum
(HLPF) 2019 in New York on 17 July. This report was created in line with the
reporting framework of the UN handbook on the Voluntary National Review (VNR),
based on the reviews by national governments on challenges and progress on the
SDGs. Taiyo Jyuken Co. Ltd is a small-sized company based in Yokohama City,
Kanagawa Prefecture, and is attracting public attention due to its active efforts
to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals while simultaneously contributing
to the local government’s plan.

Global Search for Sustainable Schools: Executing Agency Services Call for
Expressions of Interest

IGES, as the coordinating body for the Global Search for Sustainable Schools
project, is calling for expressions of interest from qualified organisations.
The project comes under the Sustainable Lifestyles and Education programme of
the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production
Patterns (10YFP), and it is initiating an international search for and development
of sustainable schools.

IGES Signs MoU to Join Assessment Partners for the New York Declaration on
Forests (NYDF)

On 8 July, IGES began participation as an Assessment Partner in the New York
Declaration on Forests (NYDF). In this role, the Institute will contribute to
the evaluation of the progress of the Declaration, based on its accumulated
knowledge and expertise.

Official launch of a new report "Mainstreaming the SDGs in Business: Actions
by Companies and Organisations in Japan"

Over the past three years, Global Compact Network Japan (GCNJ) and IGES have
jointly investigated awareness and efforts by GCNJ member companies and
organisations on the SDGs, and have published reports summarising the results.
The latest report, "Mainstreaming the SDGs in Business: Actions by Companies and
Organisations in Japan", includes the results of the 2018 survey as well as a
survey specifically focused on diversity management, which is closely linked to
SDG5 (gender equality and women's empowerment), SDG8 (decent work and economic
growth) and SDG10 (reduced inequalities).

ISAP2019 Successfully Concluded - Presentation Materials now Available

ISAP2019 in Yokohama was concluded successfully at the end of July under the
theme of “Inclusive transformation: Multi-stakeholder collaboration driving the
world towards a Circulating and Ecological Economy”. Audience participation
reached nearly 1,000 over the course of the two-day forum, which brought together
stakeholders from Japan and overseas for lively discussions and interactive
sessions on how to generate greater impacts in the future, in strategic and
timely ways.

"Achievements, Challenges and Ways Forward for the Satoyama
Development Mechanism: A Self-assessment by the SDM Secretariat"

This report analysed the extent to which 30 Satoyama Development Mechanism (SDM)
projects, consisting of 124 interventions, achieved strategic objectives such as
increasing knowledge about, reducing degradation of, and enhancing benefits from
socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS). A number of
recommendations follow from the report’s key findings.

Policy Report
"Our Actions for a Resource-efficient Future: Following up G7
Progress on Toyama Framework on Material Cycles and 5-year Bologna Roadmap"

On 5 May, at the G7 Environment Ministers’ Meeting (EMM) held in Metz, France,
the G7 Resource Efficiency Alliance unveiled a report compiling Alliance members’
current best efforts for resource efficiency improvement. IGES contributed to
the production of this report under an initiative of the Japanese Ministry of
the Environment.
