ISAP2019 - International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific Registration open!
"ISAP2019 - International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific" to be held on 30 and 31 July in Yokohama
The International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific, known as ISAP2019, will be held on 30-31 July in Yokohama. This forum is held annually to share information and facilitate diverse discussions on sustainable development in Asia and the Pacific, with the participation of front-line experts and diverse stakeholders from international organisations, governments, businesses and NGOs. This year's theme is "Inclusive transformation: Multi-stakeholder collaboration driving the world towards a Circulating and Ecological Economy". Co-organised by IGES and UNU-IAS, there will be panel discussions and expert presentations touching on a range of environmental topics, from energy use and climate change, to plastic waste and natural resources, to sustainable consumption and production, and more. Activity Report "Innovate4Climate"

IGES attended and presented at "Innovate4Climate" (I4C), held in Singapore from 4-7 June. I4C is an international convention and exhibition organised by the World Bank. IGES organised a booth to showcase good practices and successful cases of implementing the JCM, and presented at workshops and side events.

Activity Report "Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and Project Financing"

IGES co-organised the “Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) and Project Financing” side event at the International New Energy Summit on 23 May in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. IGES researchers also participated in panel discussions and made a presentation regarding renewable energy trends and JCM contribution to Mongolian renewable energy sector.

Activity Report "New Ideas for Sustainable Business and Lessons from Pioneers in Circular Economy and Climate Change"

IGES and others co-organised a multi-stakeholder seminar, “New Ideas for Sustainable Business and Lessons from Pioneers in Circular Economy and Climate Change” as a part of “ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2019” in Bangkok on 7 June. The conference shared useful experiences from private companies and governments at the forefront of circular economy and climate change, including corporate commitments to sustainability, new industrial and energy policies in Thailand, and past discussions among relevant stakeholders.

Activity Report of Session at International Conference "Holistic Waste Management: A Case of Organic Waste Management"

On 22 May, CCET and UNEP-IETC jointly organised a session on biogas technology at an international conference held over two days in Osaka on “Technology Solutions for Holistic Waste Management - A Global Dialogue with the Private Sector”. The session focused on potential application of anaerobic digestion (AD) systems and experts from international organisation, research institutes, academia, and the business sector shared their insights and experiences on organic waste management. The audience were then invited to join the discussion on public-private partnership for implementing holistic waste management.

"Our Actions for a Resource-efficient Future: Following up G7 Progress on Toyama Framework on Material Cycles and 5-year Bologna Roadmap"


On 5 May, at the G7 Environment Ministers’ Meeting (EMM) held in Metz, France, the G7 Resource Efficiency Alliance unveiled a report compiling Alliance members’ current best efforts for resource efficiency improvement. IGES contributed to the production of this report under an initiative of the Japanese Ministry of the Environment.

"Socio-Ecological Production Landscapes and Seascapes as Regional/Local Circulating and Ecological Spheres"


Socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes (SEPLS) can contribute to global goals for biodiversity conservation and dealing with climate change, while also contributing locally to human security and wellbeing. In this paper, we discuss how to accelerate the efforts to conserve and enrich SEPLS alongside the new “regional/local circulating and ecological spheres (regional/local CES)” concept.

"Society and Lifestyles in 2050: Insights from a Global Survey of Experts"


This paper summarises the results of an expert survey conducted by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment). Looking at forecasted changes in society, the paper focuses on nine lifestyle domains (food, manufactured goods, mobility, housing, work, education, leisure, health, and social connections and relationships) and based on the insights provided by futures experts in diverse fields on a global scale, it suggests that such changes have the potential to lead to more sustainable lifestyles in the future.
