Event Report "Two Seminars in Mongolia"

IGES and the Environment Conservation Fund, Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Mongolia recently organised two seminars. The first was the "Open Seminar on Renewable Energy Development in Mongolia" on renewable energy development in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This event was organised to promote the importance of renewable energy in climate change mitigation and to discuss challenges and opportunities to support contributions from the private sector in Mongolia. IGES shared global trends on renewable energy technology and policy development as well as the ongoing support from carbon markets.

The second seminar was on the Joint Crediting Mechanism in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. A 15 MW solar power plant project near the new airport in Tuv province was presented at the event as an example of a Model Project of the JCM Financing Programme. The Mongolian JCM Secretariat and IGES also introduced a video on private sector contributions to climate change mitigation and development of a tool to assess contributions from the JCM projects to sustainable development in Mongolia.

Event Report "Second Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Development of National Strategy to Mitigate Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCP) from Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSWM) in the Philippines"

As part of the development of a national strategy to mitigate short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) from municipal solid waste management (MSWM) in the Philippines, a second focus group discussion (FGD) was organised under the Climate and Clean Air Coalition’s Municipal Solid Waste Initiative (CCAC-MSWI) in Tagaytay city on 6-8 November 2018. The workshop revisited the results of the 1st FGD held in October 2018 and revisions were made accordingly with technical inputs from the Core Group of Experts (CGE) who were in attendance.

Data/Tool "Emission Quantification Tool (EQT) for Estimation of GHGs/SLCPs from Solid Waste Sector"

The Emission Quantification Tool (EQT) has been developed to support a rapid assessment of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), (i.e. black carbon), associated with municipal solid waste management in a city/country, considering all the phases of the life cycle.
