2° investing initiative / RIEF / IGES Co-organised Workshop:
"Examining alignment of the Japanese equity market with the 2°C climate goal: Evaluation of energy production and use of technology" (28 February Tokyo)


On 28 February 2018, the French think tank 2° Investing Initiative (2°ii), in partnership with Mr. Yoshihiro Fujii, Representative Director of the Research Institute for Environmental Finance (RIEF), Professor Jusen Asuka of Tohoku University, and Dr. Michiyo Morisawa, Director of the CDP Japan office and Head of PRI Japan, and IGES will launch a new report that examines the degree to which the Tokyo Stock Price Index (TOPIX) is aligned with the Paris Agreement on climate change. The launch of the report will also coincide with a workshop held on 28 February, where 2° Investing Initiative’s lead author of the report, Mr. Hugues Chenet, will be on hand to summarise main findings and recommendations.

Public Seminar: "Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) -Experience and lessons learned from project implementation" (9 March Tokyo)

This seminar will review the role of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) in promoting climate mitigation actions, with a view towards scaling up financial support for JCM projects led by the Ministry of the Environment in developing countries.
The seminar will feature presentations from Thailand, Viet Nam, and Indonesia officials (to be confirmed) who will discuss progress and key achievements resulting from project implementation in each respective country.

Environmental Economic Policy Research Symposium:
"Supporting global top runners: Tentative plan for green tax reform to achieve a decarbonised society" (15 March Tokyo)


This symposium will discuss the latest development in economic policy research on the environment, exploring how Japan can become a global leader on sustainable development by examining proposals for ambitious green tax reforms. Considering the viewpoints of a wide range of stakeholders from government, business, and the financial sector, the symposium will seek to deepen policy discussions focused on realising a de-carbonised society.

Technical cooperation agreement signed with Toyama City, Shimokawa Town on promotion of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

The signing of these agreements marks an important step for Toyama City and Shimokawa Town in their efforts to pursue sustainable, decarbonised urban development, which includes knowledge sharing on good practices and lessons about the SDG across wider society.
