IGES Content Rankings 2021
The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) produced a wide range of reports, events and web content in 2021. As a special feature at the start of 2022, we have compiled the most popular IGES content of the past year by category (Top 10 Most Downloaded Publications, Top 5 Most Viewed Webpages, Top 5 Most Viewed Videos, and Most Liked Tweet). These rankings capture the environmental happenings of 2021, and provide clues as to what might be trending in 2022.

Launch of the IGES Interactive SDG Tool for River Basins
On 9 December 2021, IGES launched an interactive online tool to assess how the observed and projected changes in river basins relate to various SDGs and their associated targets, from both spatial and temporal perspectives. The tool is the outcome of the "River basins as ‘living laboratories’ for achieving sustainable development goals across national and sub-national scales (Luanhe Living Lab)" project, supported by IGES and partners from the University of Glasgow, Loughborough University and Brunel University in the UK, and Nankai University in China.

Sustainability Week Asia
Held from 14 to 17 February 2022, Sustainability Week Asia is a symposium organised by Economist Impact. On 14 February at 11:00 JST, Yasuo Takahashi, IGES Executive Director, will speak at the session "Asia’s path to an equitable and sustainable post-pandemic recovery", along with Mr. Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Indonesia and Dr. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, UNESCAP Executive Secretary. They will discuss impacts of the pandemic on the Asia-Pacific, their visions of post-pandemic recovery, the role of businesses in shaping a sustainable recovery, and other timely topics.

ISAP2021 Archives
The International Forum on Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP2021), which took place from 24 November to 3 December, was a great success with nearly 1,000 participants. Under the theme of "The Decisive Decade: Towards Integrated Solutions to Climate, Biodiversity and Other Planetary Challenges", many important global environmental issues were discussed with world-renowned researchers and practitioners working on the ground. New Reports Added to the VLR Lab
IGES manages the VLR Lab, an online platform offering comprehensive information about local government actions on the SDGs. The Voluntary Local Review (VLR) is an international initiative in which local governments conduct their own evaluation of action on the SDGs and publish the results as a report comparable with other local governments. In December, the VLR Lab received four reports from Tokyo, Yokohama, Kaohsiung and Orlando.

"Building Resilience to the Risk of Compound and Cascading Disasters in the Context of Climate Change" - Launch of a New e-learning Course on AP-PLAT
During this era that is defined by the climate crisis, we see a deepening risk of natural disasters in every corner of the world. The Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), along with IGES, has developed the e-learning course "Building Resilience to the Risk of Compound and Cascading Disasters in the Context of Climate Change". This international workshop will serve as the official launch of the course, spark exchange among a broad range of stakeholders, and include discussions about gaps in capacity and needs to strengthen disaster management at the local level in order to reduce and prevent compound and cascading disasters.

LCS-RNet 12th Annual Meeting - "Accelerating Actions for Leveraging a Climate-Neutral, Sustainable Society"
On 15-16 December, the Leveraging a Climate-neutral Society - Strategic Research Network (LCS-RNet) organised its 12th annual meeting, inviting prominent researchers including Prof. Jim Skea, Co-chair of the IPCC WGIII, as well as Prof. Derk Loorbach, who are renowned for research on transition management. This annual meeting set "Accelerating Actions for Leveraging a Climate-Neutral, Sustainable Society" as an overarching theme, featuring sessions to discuss decarbonisation in industries, as well as employment, international cooperation and finance for leveraging climate-neutral societies. Asian Transparency Workshop
On 13-14 December, IGES, with the support of the Ministry of the Environment, Japan (MOEJ), and in collaboration with the UNFCCC-IGES Regional Collaboration Centre (RCC) for Asia and UNEP-DTU Partnership, organised the "Asian Transparency Workshop (Online)". It highlighted aspects for preparation of Biennial Transparency Reports, including Article 6 reporting, which provide information on progress made in implementing and achieving nationally determined contributions under the Paris Agreement. The two-day workshop was attended by government officials from 11 countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand), and experts from various international organisations.

"Assessing the Climate and Sustainable Development Impacts of Projects and Policies"
On 8 December, IGES, the Asian Development Bank and UNEP-DTU Partnership co-organised a webinar to introduce how several international organisations and research institutions are using tools to assess the sustainable development impacts of climate change and development projects.
