The Next Chapter of Sustainable Finance in the EU and Japan: Key Implications for Financial Market Actors and Industry

On 16 September, IGES will co-organise a webinar on key sustainable finance policies recently enacted in the European Union and Japan. In April 2021 the European Commission (EC) adopted a comprehensive package of measures to facilitate the flow of investments towards sustainable activities, which include the EU Taxonomy Climate Delegated Act, a proposal for a Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and the amendment of delegated acts on sustainability preferences, rules on fiduciary duties, and product governance. In Japan, the Basic Guidelines on Climate Transition Finance were published in May 2021 and the Expert Panel on Sustainable Finance delivered the “Report by the Expert Panel on Sustainable Finance,” laying out recommendations for policy actions needed to promote sustainable activities in Japan. This webinar will address the practical implications of these policy developments on financial institutions and the wider industry in the EU and Japan.

“Aligning Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies in Asia” (Springer)

With many countries in Asia striving to achieve the objectives set out in their respective national climate policies and make progress with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this book is particularly timely. It provides policymakers, researchers and other interested audiences with knowledge on how to quantify, integrate and advance co-benefits in their decisions. The book presents an overview of the concept of co-benefits, and gives some quantitative approaches to estimate them. It also includes a series of case studies, and offers new perspectives, linking climate change with biodiversity and social justice, as well as highlighting new models of co-innovation.
