ISAP2020: “Just Transitions Toward Sustainable Societies in Asia and the Pacific”

On 30 November, IGES held the plenary for its annual “International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific” (ISAP2020), in an online format. This year’s theme was “Just Transitions Toward Sustainable Societies in Asia and the Pacific: Building Forward Better for Our Future Beyond COVID-19”. The five plenaries included one focusing on “Synergy among Biodiversity, Climate and SDGs”, and another looking at “Bridging International Science, Policy and Implementation”. Recordings of the plenary, in addition to all of the thematic tracks that took place from 9-13 November, can be found online (at the link below). This year’s forum also featured a virtual exhibition, where participants could read publications and watch videos. Overall the Forum successfully brought together a range of stakeholders from Japan and across the world for fruitful discussions about response, recovery and redesign in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Revamped Platform for Redesign 2020 Website is Live

The website for the Platform for Redesign 2020, an initiative to enhance international solidarity in addressing both the COVID-19 and climate crises simultaneously, has been updated. Created as a hub for information about countries’ climate and environment-related actions and policies in the context of recovery from COVID-19, its new features include a News & Events section, a search tool to filter national measures by category and/or time, an overview of all measures, and a dedicated page for video archives of the Ministerial Meeting held on 3 September. Led by the Ministry of the Environment Japan, supported by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and managed by IGES, the Platform for Redesign 2020 aims to galvanise momentum toward COP26 in 2021 and introduces the concept of “redesign” as complementary to response and recovery efforts.
